The Bonus Round started in 2007, in Iraq. I was a Marine, and that deployment was the kind where the close calls stack up. When we made it home, my buddies and I couldn't stop saying it to each other: this is our bonus round. Extra time we were never promised.

I decided not to waste it. I left the Marine Corps, commissioned into the Army as an officer in the Medical Service Corps, and served eight more years, finishing as a Captain. When I finally hung up the uniform, I kept living by those same three words, they pushed me to finish my master's degree and write a book, things I might never have chased if I hadn't learned how short the clock really is.

But something was always missing. The 9-to-5 never fit. I couldn't get behind a mission I didn't believe in, I watched people put in charge who'd never learned to lead, and most of all I missed the brotherhood, the camaraderie that carries you when the work gets hard. For years it felt like I was marking time instead of building something that mattered.

So I'm building it. The Bonus Round is a working ranch in Mayfield, Kansas, laying hens and Katahdin sheep to start, raised honestly, one paddock and one lesson at a time. No costume-cowboy act. Just heritage, grit, and real work you can taste and hold. Join me on this adventure
